Looking at the CES trade-show floor this year, we see increasing emphasis on the in-car technologies. A record nine car manufacturers are present on hand, showcasing the latest infotainment offerings promoting enhanced connectivity between consumers’ portable devices and car’s entertainment and navigation systems. Next to in-car smartphone integration, there are more and more capabilities being built directly into the cars themselves. One of the upcoming advancements include built-in 4G high-speed broadband powering the in-vehicle app ecosystem. An always-connected car allows users to play video in the back, stream audio in the front and at the same time access all the up-to-date traffic information.
According to Gartner’s recent predictions, by 2016 the majority of consumers in the mature markets will expect at least basic Web-based information availability in their cars. Following the demand, by the end of 2020 as many as 80% of the new vehicles will offer a connected-car functionality.
