When I drag a file or folder to the NTFS volume, I get no dialog about duplicate files / folders. It simply makes a second same-named file at the same location. This is awful. How can it be corrected?

First you have to remove duplicate files.Then try I think it will work.To find and remove duplicate files easily you can use Duplicate Files Deleter. http://DuplicateFilesDeleter.com
