Can't write to external hard drive
Hello,
I just made the switch to Mac (running Snow Leopard) and am attempting to transfer over all the files from my pc (running Windows 7) via a 1 TB FreeAgent external hard drive. So I installed NTFS-3G, which, if I understand correctly, should be allow me to write to my external hard drive, which is formatted for windows.
The hard drive registers as readable/writable on my pc, but as read-only on my Mac. And when I tried to back up my Mac (after installing NTFS) using Time Machine, the hard drive still registers as incompatible.
I read through most of the forum questions, tried running 'chkdsk' (which didn't fix the problem) and am kind of at a loss. Am I missing something?
Being a new Mac user, there's a lot I don't know or understand yet, but I'm hoping someone could try to help me using layman's terms.
Thank you!!
P. S. I'm pretty sure I would have no trouble transferring over the files from my pc to my Mac, but I'd like to make a backup of my Mac system while it's still clean first (having bought it used without the original OS disks), hence my problem . . . Bottom line, I really have no clue what I'm doing
