Post Slow READ performance
Hey,
NTFS-3G for Mac is a blessing, and I'm happy I finally got to install and make it work (good opportunity to start my Darwin learning). But transfer speeds are simply much slower. I know there are known issues with writing speeds, but my case is simple: regular read-only mount: 18MB/s. NTFS-3G mounting: 1.5MB/s read.
I couldn't find a single post that addressed this issue...

MacFUSE 0.4.0
NTFS-3G 1.710
MacOS X 10.4.10
Dual 2GHz G5, 2.5GB RAM
Vantec NexStar3 drive through USB high-speed channel
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10

Any ideas?

Csaba Henk's UBLIO user space chacing work made wonders for people on OS X. Unfortunately we didn't have time to integrate and fully test the patch on all platforms yet (FreeBSD already uses it) but it's planned in a couple of months.

If somebody has the time to do this work earlier then that would be very great. Hints and the OS X patches can be found here: http://shadowofged.blogspot.com/2007/05 ... gains.html

I'm in the same boat and downloaded the patches linked above (macosx-device.patch, macosx-unix_io.patch and ublio_conf.patch). The trouble is, I've no idea what to do with them! Can I just apply them to my existing NTFS-3G installation? If so, how do I do that?

Also, I see that Paul Marks had to discontinue his work and stop making his higher-performance binaries available, but I'm wondering: is anyone else distributing those binaries or has anyone released new ones based on his work? I can't find anything online, sadly. :(
