mount r/o when partition hibernated or not safely unmounted
Hello,
at first i want to thank you for your work.
I have a question about usage of ntfs-3g. Currently i'm using ntfs-3g 1.2531 on my laptop with mandriva 2008.1. My problem is, mandriva puts entries in the fstab file for the ntfs partitions on the internal harddisk. When one of these partitions is hibernated or not safely unmounted, the mounting at boottime fails.
Is there some clean way to mount these partitions automatically readonly in such cases?
The second partition i have forced to, because it is internally connected via usb, and so when hibernating it does not get safely unmounted, so it is safe to force-mount it.
Or would this be a suggestion for the todo list of ntfs-3g? Automatically mount partitions readonly when they can't be cleanly mounted read-write? This should be safe, shouldn't it? I think these cases are not uncommon, when a partition is hibernated or not safely unmounted, the latter applies more to external drives, because most windows users don't know about this or don't do it for convenience reasons.
Regards
Florian

Automatic fallback to read-only mount is planned to be supported.
Nevertheless I think a distribution also shouldn't fail booting if one non-critical, non-system partition can't be mounted.
Thanks, Szaka

Maybe you misunderstood a bit. It does not fail booting, it fails mounting at boottime,
manual (forced) mount works well. But i'm more than happy to hear about this.
Can you already give an ETA?

Perhaps in 4-6 months. We are working on several more important things at the moment.

Re: mount r/o when partition hibernated or not safely unmounted
Seems fixed with latest release 2009.2.1
Change: A volume having unclean journal file is recovered and mounted by default. The 'norecover' mount option can be used to disable this behavior.
Thanks for your dedication.
