Tuxera talks automotive data storage and software development, all at ScaleUp 360

On September 23-24, 2020, join us as we dive deep into autonomous vehicles at ScaleUp 360. In this event, we tackle the complexities of and requirements for automotive data storage for autonomous driving. We’ll have a presentation plus a panel talk that you won’t want to miss. Get a taste of what’s in store by reading the details below.

Solving data storage challenges in the automotive projects of tomorrow

Historically, automotive control units were literally read only. Functionality has been defined by the developer at the very beginning, with no major changes over lifetime. Consequently, the number of write cycles for flash memory was a no-worry. Now, systems have become much more complex with ECUs consolidated into domain controllers and hosting multiple functions on one SOC. The introduction of Android makes cars look like mobile phones, but with a higher lifetime of 10-15 years. Together with OTA updates, this results in many more write cycles that might make the flash wear out before end of life of the car. Fragmentation is observed to have an impact on performance in mobile devices – and could simply break an automotive system. Issues like FCA’s endless loop update from 2018, or the Spotify bug from 2016 with writing 5 GB per hour to flash puts further risk on future systems. We describe those effects more in detail, and suggest measures to mitigate the risks.

Presenter: Bernd Niedermeier, Head of Automotive Business Development at Tuxera

Session(s): Cloud + mobile security / IT architecture / Testing + validation + simulation

Date/time: September 24, 09:35-10:10

Key Takeaways: Learn about flash memory, as well as factors that impact the behavior of storage in automotive and ways to mitigate the associated risks. You’ll also hear about the importance and effect of filesystems in automotive applications.

Panel: What do autonomous vehicle engineers need for developing autonomous vehicle software?

Can you transform idea to production code quickly enough in the automotive industry? Are you able to run business experiments in the Automotive Ecosystem? Can you be certain that tests are passed and requirements satisfied for each release? Furthermore, can you ensure those requirements consistently stay satisfied for your production branch?

Join the panelists – including our very own Bernd Niedermeier – as they navigate the complexities of all these questions.

Panelist: Bernd Niedermeier, Head of Automotive Business Development at Tuxera
