Five years of backing world-class chess

For the fifth consecutive year, Tuxera is proud to be the naming sponsor of Tuxera Aquaprofit Nagykanizsai Sakk Klub, Hungary’s most successful top-division chess team and one of Europe’s leading chess clubs.

What started as a sponsorship has grown into a long-term partnership built around something we deeply value at Tuxera: excellence, intellectual rigor, strategic thinking, and the ambition to compete at the highest level.

The numbers speak for themselves. The club is an 18-time Hungarian Team Champion, including a record-breaking 17 consecutive national titles, and counting. In 2025 it finished 5th at the European Chess Club Cup, competing against Europe’s strongest clubs and many of the world’s top players.

A century of chess in Nagykanizsa

The club has a remarkable chess history. This year marked its 100th anniversary, a milestone that provided the perfect opportunity to take the club’s international ambitions another step forward. The centenary was commemorated through Kanizsa Muse, a new public artwork celebrating the city’s cultural heritage and its century-long chess tradition, symbolized by the chess rook held by the figure.

Together with the Hungarian Chess Federation, we organized the Kanizsa Open 2026, which became the strongest classical open tournament in Europe this year, measured by average player rating. The nine-day competition brought together hundreds of strong players from around the world, including World and European champions. The occasion was made even more special by the visit of Judit Polgar, widely regarded as the strongest female chess player of all time and a former member of the club, who also gave a 30-board simultaneous exhibition.

There was a fitting connection between the tournament and the team’s future: both the overall winner, Indian Grandmaster Pranesh M, and the women’s category winner, reigning European Women’s Champion Anastasiia Hnatyshyn of Ukraine, have signed to represent Tuxera Aquaprofit Nagykanizsai Sakk Klub.
