Highlights the company’s commitment to global SD standards and memory card development
ESPOO, Finland – October, 22, 2019 – Tuxera, the world-leading embedded storage software and networking technology company, has announced that it has been selected as a member of the SD Association’s Board of Directors. The achievement comes as Tuxera surpasses ten years of actively contributing to SD memory card standards development.
“We are excited and honored to be joining the SD Association’s Board of Directors,” says Joel Catala, Director of Engineering at Tuxera. “As world leaders in flash file storage, memory card development is something we take very seriously. We are confident that our expertise in storage management solutions, as well as strong industry partnerships, will bring unique value to the SD Association and help in advancing SD card innovation.”
Founded in 2000, the SD Association is a global network of companies collaborating to set memory card storage standards for improved use and lifetime of consumer electronics. The association aims to advance industry-leading technical and specification standards for SD memory cards. At present, it includes roughly 900 companies involved in the design, development, or manufacture of products using SD standards. The SD Association has both chosen and further developed FAT and exFAT as the standard file systems for SD, SDHC, SDXC, and SDUC card support.
“It’s a great pleasure to have Tuxera as a Board Member,” says Yosi Pinto, Chairman of the SD Association’s Board of Directors. “For years, Tuxera has demonstrated its commitment to developing memory card technology in accordance with industry-wide technical standards. With flash storage software knowledge and file system solution implementations used by the SD eco-system worldwide, Tuxera provides the association with a valuable perspective on topics ranging from engineering to marketing and more.”
Over a decade of meaningful membership
Tuxera joined the SD Association back in 2009, reaching Executive Member status in 2013. The last five years have seen the company as a particularly involved member. As Tuxera focuses on the development of file system solutions that power seamless data portability, the company actively drives discussions about the future direction of SD Association standards.
Tuxera has worked diligently with Microsoft, the SDA, and hardware manufacturers to ensure that device manufacturers are able to integrate FAT and exFAT solutions on any platform and adopt SD, SDHC, SDXC, SDUC memory card support on any device. Tuxera contributed to standardizing memory card sizes of 128TB and larger, and is the active developer of the SD Card Formatter – the official software tool for formatting SD memory cards. Tuxera was also the first independent software vendor which licensed access to the exFAT specifications, source code, and verification tools from Microsoft.
Leading OEMs worldwide ship Tuxera file system solutions that guarantee full compliance with the latest storage standards, as well as flawless interoperability. Microsoft exFAT by Tuxera and Microsoft FAT by Tuxera solutions power SD, SDHC, SDXC, and SDUC support in high-end Android devices, smart TVs, automotive infotainment and DVR systems, as well as numerous other devices.
